Migration:
I used a
plugin to migrate my website. The plugin I used was All-In-One. A simple and effective
plugin that we were introduced to in class and therefore made sense to use it.
Easy to export and import files using it. A problem arose where it wouldn’t import
it to the hosting site, and to work with that, one solution I was given was to
use an older version of the plugin and upload it that way and it worked. I used
ifastnet (the paid version of infinity free) because I had already an idea of
how to use it.
URL: www.carrickrestaurantreviews.site
Theme:
The theme I
used was ‘Restaurant Recipe’. It provided a good starting point for a restaurant
website and I altered to fit a restaurant review site.
Plugins:
1. Yoast SEO: See data and site
activity.
2. Forminator: I used this to create a
contact form for the contact page for people to email reviews or queries.
3. Site Reviews: This plugin provided a
summary of reviews, view all reviews posted and be able to post a review.
4. WP Maps: This plugin was used to
show the location of the restaurant the blog talks about.
5. User Reg/login: This allows users to
register, login, view their account, etc.
Code Snippets:
1. Min Comment length: To have a decent
review, even if it is a short sentence, rather than just post 1 word.
2. Spam comment at 300 words: To make
sure that is they do go over the limit, admin has to approve it in case it is
spam and/or unrelated to the review.
3. Remove admin front end: to be able
to view the site without distractions and see how it looks outside of admin.
4. Disable links from user comments:
spam comments can post misleading/scam/spam links therefore blocking it avoids
those issues.
5. Remove wp version info from head and
feeds: Didn’t need to see that.
